Mahadevan Narayanamoni

Current Role – Partner, Corporate Finance, Grant Thornton India
He leads the firm’s Healthcare & Life Sciences Advisory practice and the Hyderabad practice. He previously used to lead the Corporate Finance practice for the firm (comprising M&A, Due Diligence and Valuations practices)

Mahad has about 14 years experience in Corporate Finance, Management Consulting and Industry. Mahad joined Grant Thornton in India having previously worked with Hindustan Unilever Limited, PricewaterhosueCoopers UK and Grant Thornton UK. Mahad has significant experience in private equity transactions, due diligence, cross-border acquisitions and overseas listing. He has worked extensively with companies in India, Europe and the US on transactions.

  • - Advised K12 Techno Services Pvt Ltd on the $12 million fundraising from Sequoia Capital and Song Advisors, in what was the first private equity transaction in the K12 education space in India
  • - Advised Magna Infotech on the disposal of majority stake to Ikya Human Capital Solutions, in what was the largest deal in the IT staffing space in India - and a deal that was closed in 8 weeks
  • Advised Vivimed Labs on multiple acquisitions (domestic and cross border)
  • Advised SatNav Technologies on the $7 million fundraising from Sequoia Capital
  • Advised Innominds Software on the disposal to Advent Global
  • Advised a HNI on the investment of $6.5 million into Global Hospitals
  • Advised Eveready Industries on the acquisition of Uniross Batteries, a EUR 40 million rechargeable batteries company in France
  • Advised Himatsingka Seide on the acquisition of Divatex Limited, a $150 million+ US based home furnishings distribution company

Experience with Grant Thornton UK – 2004 to 2005 (2 years)

As part of the Corporate Finance team, worked on several private equity, M&A and corporate restructuring transactions, carrying out business reviews, restructuring and due diligence. The key transactions included:

  • Acquisition of ANC Express, a GBP 100 million + company by Lloyds Development Capital
  • Acquisition of Advantage Healthcare, a large recruitment company, by Rutland Capital
  • Acquisition of a leading frozen food business by Lehman Brothers (EUR 400 million deal)
  • Restructuring of Presswork Metals for a controlled wind-down and part strategic sale
  • Restructuring of Golden Wonder for carve out and subsequent sale
  • Minority investment in Mayflower Industries (manufacturing) by Bank of Scotland Performance improvement of NHS hospital in South Devon
  • Strategic Review of Anchor Homes (GBP 100 million+ care homes operator)
  • Negotiation of a GBP 10 million contract between TNT Logistics and Volkswagen UK

Built a GBP 2 million operational advisory practice from scratch, which was the most profitable practice within Corporate Finance during the two years that I was with Grant Thornton UK

Experience with PricewaterhouseCoopers UK – 2002 to 2003 (1.5 years)

As part of the Transaction Services team, worked on several private equity, M&A and corporate restructuring transactions, carrying out operational reviews, post-merger integration, due diligence and performance improvement. The key transactions included

  • Management Buy Out of a leading home furniture retailer by Lloyds Development Capital
  • Acquisition of Argos Realty (home shopping business) by Littlewoods
  • Acquisition of Global Garden Products by UBS
  • Acquisition of King Europe distribution business by Charterhouse Private Equity
  • Acquisition of Boxclever electrical retail business by Cerberus Private Equity

Experience with Adexa, Inc – 2001 to 2002 (1.5 years)
As a Senior Consultant in the supply chain practice, delivered significant working capital reduction for the tractors business of Case New Holland, through reengineering of the Sales & Operations Planning process

Experience with Hindustan Unilever Limited – 1998 to 2001 (3 years)

Joined as Management Trainee and worked through various functions – Finance, IT, Sales, Logistics and Production before taking up a Project Manager role in the Information Systems Division
Delivered various supply chain improvement projects in the Soaps & Detergents and Food & Beverages businesses of HUL
