Pullela Gopichand is a great badminton player. He won the prestigious All England Badminton Championship in 2001. He was born on November 16, 1973 at Prakasam, Andhra Pradesh. He was educated at Saint Paul High School at Hyderabad. Later he was admitted to Osmania University.
He became a national champion in the 14 years age group in 1987. In 1991, he won the Junior Singles tide of badminton in Goa. He represented India in the Asian Badminton Championship in 1996. He was a Gold Medallist in the S.A.A.R.C. Games. In the same year, he represented India in the Thomas Cup in China.
He was awarded 'Best Sportsperson of the Year' in 2001. He reached the pinnacle of his career when he won the All England Badminton Championship at Birmingham. The tide came to India after a gap of 21 years, which made Pullela Gopichand a true celebrity in the sporting history of India. He was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2000.
